It would be silly to ignore the obvious reference to My Bloody Valentine in this Brooklyn quartet’s moniker so we’ll get that out the way, shall we? After listening to Let’s Be Loveless, and researching their influences, the band’s admiration for the 90s shoegaze scene is evident.
However, it is the strength of the band’s songwriting, and the ability to reign in their sound, that is most prominent over the four tracks of their debut EP. There are meaningful hooky moments over the duration of this release, most notably in opening track “Video Song”, whilst “Motivational Speaker” demonstrates Let’s Be Loveless’ ability to write a memorable guitar line, drawing in influences from more mainstream British pop rock of the 90s.
